USA Update: Battle for the White House
Dr. Markus Hünemörder who teaches American history at the University of Munich‘s America Institute will be talking about the upcoming U.S. elections.
30/10/2024
On Nov. 5 2024, Americans will elect a new president, and dramatic events changed the campaign during the summer. Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt and Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy, to be succeeded by vice president Kamala Harris. The stakes are high, as Trump has threatened to use presidential power ruthlessly if elected once more, and he is no more likely to accept defeat in 2024 than he did in 2020.
This talk will examine the candidates, the legal controversies surrounding Trump’s candidacy, the election system, as well as the key issues in domestic politics and foreign policy that will shape the election.
As usual, satirical cartoons and videos will provide comic relief on these often dark and serious issues.
